Those who cannot file until later are those who file using forms that were affected by late legislation. These returns are expected to be accepted by the IRS in late February or early March.
The main forms that require some extensive programming changes include Form 5695 (Residential Energy Credits), Form 4562 (Depreciation and Amortization) and Form 3800 (General Business Credit). A full listing of the forms that won’t be accepted until later is available on IRS.gov.
In the meantime the IRS is working with tax software and tax professionals to minimize any delays and ensure a smooth tax season.
