Each artist, applied his or her own unique vision, using the human figure for inspiration. The works are primarily nudes. The photographers utilized their own specialties, techniques and style, making for an impressively diverse selection. Some of the artists include:
Tyler Stableford, a world renowned adventure photographer
Kathryn Levi , known for her stunning shots of Denver’s architecture
Wendi Schneider, a master with a Victorian feel
Vincent Serbin, a collage artist, awarded a N.Y. Foundation for the Art fellowship grant
Candice Burg, a whimsical photographer who is brilliant at capturing the human form
Candice Burg won the grand prize, Kathryn Levi coming in 2nd and Vincent Serbin taking 3rd place. The work overall, was of an extremely high caliber..jpg)
-Vincent Serbin
Burg's winning image is extremely unusual and fresh. As Rachel Gomez, judge for this competition stated, "It is difficult to find something that hasn't already been done when it comes to nudes." Rachel knew immediately that Burg had done just that.
There has been so much demand and interest in the show, which was scheduled to close at the end of March; the gallery has now extended the exhibit until the end of April – lucky for us.
For anyone who is visiting Denver or for us locals, this is a must see for those who love the photographic arts. Be sure to visit the gallery between the hours of 10:00am-6:00pm, Tuesday through Saturday. The gallery is closed on Sundays and Mondays. There will be a special opening on the first Friday of April (April 2nd) from 10:00am – 10:00pm.
This contest is the first in a series of such events. Each exhibit will consist of a very specific theme. Anyone is welcome to submit an image for a fee of $10.00, making it an affordable opportunity to show off some talent. And there are some fun themes coming up. One contest is entitled, “Old World” – no modern methods or techniques allowed and another, “The Punk Rock Show” -really, something for everyone
