During this time there is a short window to get outside and enjoy nature before the heat rises. For many in the valley, allergies are too often a yearly occurrence that can bring on red eyes, dry and scratchy throats and raspy coughs. Over the counter allergy medicines are readily available but what if a more natural approach is sought?

Listed below are some easy inexpensive natural ways to help fight the allergy fight this season.

A great tasting way to fight your allergies is to have some local honey twice a day. It needs to be local to help combat the local pollens that are attacking the body. A teaspoon in the morning and a teaspoon at night is all that is needed. It tastes great and really works. Honey has been used for centuries for many different cures; it is also a great antibiotic.

Neti pots are another good way to help clear up sinus passages. Any local drug store will carry one of these. They use either saline or warm water to flush the mucus out of the nasal cavity to help aid in breathing. A neti pot can also help relieve pressure when suffering from a headache.

Lastly, certain foods contain antihistamine properties that can assist during this heavy pollen season. Look to incorporate these foods into menus to help boost the body’s immune defenses when fighting seasonal allergies. Some of those foods are garlic, onions, apples and citrus.

Hopefully some of these suggestions help during this time when having open windows and doors are so enjoyable. Fresh air and a nice breeze can bring relaxation and sometimes a stuffy nose.
