Fight post-holiday blues at the theme parks: Four ways to cheer up and have fun

The period after the holiday season is always a let-down, but not if you're in Central Florida. The theme parks offer many great ways to cheer yourself up and, better yet, the holiday crowds are gone. Here are some suggestions on how to lift the post-holiday blues:

Check out underwater viewing at SeaWorld Orlando. There's literally no way you can feel depressed when you're nose to nose with a dolphin or orca. Go to the underwater viewing areas, and bring a toy, shiny key chain, or other object to catch the dolphins' or orcas' attention for a really close encounter. If you really want the full personal experience, book Dine with Shamu for a fun, informal experience with the trainers and orcas.

Get turned into a Minion at Universal Studios Florida. Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem is a fun ride, from the very first pre-show all the way to the post-ride dance party. It's the most upbeat ride at the park, and the pre-shows always make me laugh out loud.

Play Agent P's World Showcase Adventure at Epcot. How can you feel down when you're helping Perry the platypus defeat Dr. Doofenshmirtz's evil schemes? You'll also explore corners of the countries in World Showcase at Epcot that you might never have noticed before.

Take a spin on Toy Story Mania at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Who doesn't love Buzz, Woody, and the gang? It's impossible not to forget all your cares as you try to max out your score in the virtual arcade games. Grab a FastPass, then ride it once in the standby line and again in the Fastpass line to see if you can beat your score.

Drop in on SheiKra at Busch Gardens Tampa. If other distractions don't work, I guarantee that plummeting 200 feet almost straight down will distract your mind from the post-holiday blues. If that's not enough air time for you, grab a ride on Cheetah Hunt, too.
