The WBO has announced the judges and referee for the Mike ‘303’ Alvarado vs Ruslan Provodnikov WBO light welterweight title fight here this Saturday night at the 1ST BANK Center in Broomfield and televised LIVE on HBO beginning at 7:45PM, their choices raising a few eyebrows.
The selection of referee Tony Weeks along with judge’s Robert Hoyle, Denny Nelson and Levi Martinez are all capable and competent in what they do but were there none in Colorado just as capable and competent or were any extended an invitation? Just asking…
The recent floods here in Colorado have severely affected the lives of many unfortunate victims including one amateur boxing club here in the Denver area.
The LaFamilia Boxing Club, located in Longmont, Colorado, lost everything in their leased space with all of their boxing equipment, supplies and their traveling van with this tragedy (flood) having been unforeseeable them uninsured.
“I never expected a flood, theft or fire maybe , but this one (flood) caught most everyone by surprise”, began LaFamilia head man Randy Lopez. “I was insured for the wrong disaster as were most in the area. The building is in the process of restoration and with Ghost Town Gladiators Boxing Club (Raul Utajara) allowing the LaFamilia kids to train at their facility, my employer Western Disposal pitching in with $1,000 dollars for equipment and Alpine Lumber donating the lumber necessary to build a new competition boxing ring, we’re on the way back. We’re coming back more humble and proud, me setting the example for my kids of never quitting no matter how you’ve been held down, pushed back or knocked down, you get back up just as you do in life”.
Randy Lopez has been the boxing leader of LaFamilia Boxing Club since 2007 and prior to that was a coach for the Longmont Boxing Club alongside Coach Don ‘Wiz’ Wizner.
The USBL.Amateur, in conjunction with the Denver Boxing Academy, ‘Elite Amateur Action’ boxing show slated for November 2, 2013, had already scheduled proceeds from this particular show going to one of their members LaFamilia Boxing Club, as does each member of their organization receive the same opportunity to benefit, this show’s proceeds seeming more timely than imagined.
Weigh-ins: 8-10AM on November 2nd, with the show beginning promptly at 2PM with tickets just $10 with children under age of 7 admitted FREE.
