The Humane Society of the United States fights tirelessly to stop animal cruelty by conducting undercover investigations, advocating for better animal welfare laws, and rescuing both domestic and wild animals from abusive and dangerous living environments.
The HSUS’ list of accomplishments, dating back to its inception in 1954 is long and inspiring. This year alone, the HSUS participated in the investigation and arrest of several dogfighters, and rescued 176 animals from deplorable hoarding situations and puppy mills, all within a four month span.
They also worked to improve the living conditions of farm animals used for the food industry, exposed the fur trade, worked to protect wolves from wolf hunting in Michigan, and pushed for the release of chimpanzees from government research facilities, which allowed for these beautiful apes to be retired into sanctuaries where they could live the rest of their lives without being tested or exposed to painful and invasive procedures (2013 HSUS Accomplishments).
These are just a few of HSUS’ undertakings. This remarkable animal protection organization works to defend and rescue dogs, cats, and other domestic animals as well as fight for the protection of wild animals such as apes, seals, dolphins, sharks, whales, and other wildlife. But in order to continue their life saving efforts, they need the support of the public and animal lovers like you.
