The popularity of the E L James novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey" is undeniable. The book has sold over 31 million copies worldwide and has spent countless weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. Now the Damson Dene Hotel in the United Kingdom has decided the novel is a more desirable read than the Gideon Bible. Hotel manager Wayne Bartholomew has removed all Bibles and replaced them with copies of the explicit "Fifty Shades of Grey."
Bartholomew defended his actions, telling The Westmorland Gazette, "The Gideon Bible is full of references to sex and violence, although it’s written using more formal language, so James’s book is easier to read." He also said that the move was made due to popular demand. He believed the guests would prefer the erotic novel to the Bible, yet were too shy to admit it. Local churches are not happy with the change but Bartholomew is more concerned with keeping his rooms booked.
According to Expedia.com you can spend the evening enjoying a free copy of the bestseller for only $152 a night. If you would prefer to pull the traditional Gideon Bible out of your nightstand, Bartholomew promises they are still available at the front desk.
