The movie adaptation for the book trilogy Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James has been all over the news in recent weeks as it has started production for the movie, which is set to come out August 1, 2014.
First news to be released is the director and the write of the film’s adaptation.
The film picked up relatively unknown director Sam Taylor-Johnson. She is married to actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson and that’s what people seem to know her for. But she has some creditability having directed critically acclaimed movie Nowhere Boy, which was about John Lennon’s life as a young adult and child.
After the director was chosen, the studios looked for a writer that could bring this book to life. Alongside the books creator E.L. James, Kelly Marcel has been chosen to write the screenplay. Marcel just recently wrote the screenplay for Saving Mr. Banks (the story of Walt Disney wanting to adapt P.L. Tavers Mary Poppins book), which is getting some attention from the Oscars already.
With the two key components in writer and director out of the way, fans anxiously awaited for the casting of the two leads, Anastasia Steele and Christen Grey. Fans everywhere were trying to predict who they think would get cast and who they wanted to.
Now it looks like the wait is over.
The movie’s website just announced this weekend who will be playing the two leads in the upcoming movie.
For the misunderstood CEO billionaire who has a dark past, Christian Grey, studios have cast Charlie Hunnam. Hunnam is best known for his role of Jackson or ‘Jax’ on FX’s ‘Sons of Anarchy’. He’s already got a strong fan base from the show and no doubt will bring that to the movie.
For Anastasia Steele, the shy, girl who dreams of being a writer and whose world gets turned upside when she meets Christian, Dakatoa Johnson has won the role. She is best known for her role of Kate on the recently cancelled Fox show ‘Ben and Kate’ and for her roles on 21 Jump Street and The Social Network.
But the hard part is not over. The hard part will be making the film get the rated R and try to keep it away from the NC-17 rating. This is going to prove hard considering the content, but it can be done if they focus on the main story line.
The story is about a young girl named Anastasia who meets Christian during an interview she is doing for her friend for the college school newspaper. Christian becomes completely infatuated with her and introduces her to the world of BDSM. The more time he spends with her, the more she starts to change him and open his heart to love and expose the demons he holds within.
What do you think of the casting news?
