'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie news: E.L. James talks casting, 'I have some ideas'

Although news on the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie was certainly lacking at the start of 2013, an update from the Universal Studios chairman this week that the film adaptation could be ready as early as summer 2014 found many “Fifty Shades of Grey” fans excited once again. Now, Digital Spy reported this Tuesday, Feb. 26, that E.L. James recently opened up on casting. While the inner goddess author did admit casting for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele was still a ways away, she did say she already has some ideas — and that they won’t “be who people expect.”

From Matt Bomer, Ian Somerhalder, and Henry Cavill as possible Christian Grey’s to Emilia Clarke, Alexis Bledel, and Alexandra Daddario as potential Anastasia Steele’s, casting for the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie has been a hot topic since the film’s adaptation back in early 2012. Yet this Sunday at the Academy Awards in Hollywood, James did reveal an interesting little tidbit on the greatly anticipated casting debate:

"We don't even have a filmmaker... so we are still a long way away from casting,” said the talented author, which is already known. However, James then offered a little tease: "I do have some ideas... but it may not be who people expect."

That news can be taken any which way, of course, yet it may have been a hint that our favorite Christian Grey and Ana Steele’s may not even be actors that EL James currently has in mind. Of course, the ambiguous comment could also mean she has her eye on one of the hotly talked about stars for an unknown reason; in any case, casting is at least on the inner goddess’ mind, which is certainly a good thing.

Do you think, fellow “Fifty Shades of Grey” fans, a dark-horse actor or actress might make a great addition to the lead roles, or should the decision please fans and be the talented stars that have been mentioned in the casting polls? With talk of the film hitting theaters early as 2014, the wait is hopefully winding down.
