'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie: New actress on the rise, tops 2012 Amazon books (Photos)

Although a confirmation regarding the elusive director or any news on the casting roles for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele have yet to be released this 2012 — much to the disappointment of fellow “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie fans — The Patch reported this Monday, Dec. 31, that EL James’ erotic novel series is still burning brightly in many readers’ minds, as “50 Shades” and its sequels were revealed to be at the very top of Amazon’s bestselling book list once again this year. A new Australian actress, Lauren Watson, has also recently come near the top in a key casting poll, says Latinos Post, spurring fans to consider if she may be a new lead candidate for the part of Christian’s submissive lover.

With New Year’s Eve here, many “50 Shades” readers continue to wait in anticipation for the upcoming “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie and what’s in store for fans in 2013. Yet it’s important to remember how the film itself came to be about: from a breathtaking romance novel chronicling Christian and Ana’s budding love story. This was another year of such erotic literature, as Amazon’s bestselling book list reveals that “50 Shades of Grey,” “Fifty Shades Darker,” and “Fifty Shades Freed” all topped the charts in the lead three spots. Congratulations, EL James.

In the casting polls, the latest Daily Quirk poll put darkhorse Anastasia Steele casting candidate Lauren Watson at a stunning second place with votes, coming only behind fan favorite “Gilmore Girls” actress Alexis Bledel. This isn’t necessarily the first time Watson’s name has come up in regards to the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, as the rising star has spoken about her interest in “50 Shades” and how she would “love” to be cast in the film.

“Yes, I have read the books! I didn’t know anything about them and one of my friends said, ‘Go, now, get the books and read them today! I couldn’t argue with that! I got them and read them all within the week! I was hooked.”

As for her ideal Christian Greys, Watson revealed she loves the “look” of Chace Crawford, but could also see her dominant bedroom lover as the talented Matt Bomer or Jessie Pavelka type as well. What do fellow “50 Shades” fans think of Lauren Watson as a new frontrunner for the “50 Shades of Grey” film as we leave 2012 and enter 2013? Could you see her as Ana?

Hopefully, at least, EL James treats us to some confirmed movie news soon next year, as the wait is becoming somewhat painfully — pun intended — hard to take.
