Although the casting for the hotly anticipated “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie remains a mystery at this point, several actors have nonetheless expressed great interest in taking on the role of Christian Grey. One such actor is Ian Somerhalder of “The Vampire Diaries,” as Celeb Dirty Laundry reported this Monday, Jan. 28, that the actor got many Twitter fans in a tizzy after recently posting that he was “reading a new script.” The casting options continue to narrow down this week as well. Hypable revealed this Tuesday that Alex Pettyfer has been rumored to be a frontrunner for a different film series, “Divergent,” while Matt Bomer has been getting quite a bit of buzz lately himself.
Ian Somerhalder seems to know quite well behind his smirk that he’s a fan favorite of many for the Christian Grey casting lead in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, and may have purposefully excited thousands of fans this week after tweeting:
“Reading movie script and California dreaming on such a winter’s day … Thankful for a multi-tasking brain.”
Some sites immediately speculated this could be the “Fifty Shades of Grey” script, but this is of course very unlikely, as Kelly Marcel hasn’t yet revealed to have even finished it yet. However, it does show that aside from “The Vampire Diaries,” Ian Somerhalder has enough time to take on a lead film role, which will be absolutely necessary for “50 Shades.”
Alex Pettyfer, another Christian competitor liked among many fans, may struggle to stay in the running this week if he lands the coveted role of Four in “Divergent.” Although sources this morning confirm Pettyfer hasn’t gotten the part just yet, he has auditioned for the lead, and if the "Magic Mike" actor lands it, it may be tough for Alex to balance both films this year.
Matt Bomer remains another popular casting choice for the role of Christian Grey, though the talented “White Collar” actor hasn’t been nearly as verbal as Ian Somerhalder on his potential interest in the role. Yet Perez Hilton recently endorsed Bomer on his site after the star’s handsome, clean-cut look at the People’s Choice Awards.
The “Man of Steel” Henry Cavill is equally talked-about of late by “50 Shades” fans, as the 2013 Hottest Rising Actor could very well use the lead in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie to jumpstart his career to new heights among millions of female fans around the world.
However, just as Channing Tatum was ruled out as a Christian Grey contender in late 2012 due to pursuing a directing career instead of acting, each contender’s casting schedule will also play a key part as to whether that actor can take a look at the eventual script when a director is found and movie filming is finally ready to begin.
Kelly Marcel is no doubt hard at work on the “Fifty Shades of Grey” script with help from EL James, though the wait for many of us readers is getting very hard to bear.
