'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie: Director hinted, Mila Kunis looking at casting (Video)

While the perfect Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele still haven’t been casted, Gather Entertainment reported this Wednesday, Jan. 23, that actor James Franco recently opened up on the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, hinting that director Gus Van Sant at least might be under consideration to helm the steamy film adaptation. Fox News also revealed this Thursday that Mila Kunis has opened up on “50 Shades” as well, saying that she would be willing to take on the Ana Steele casting role, as she feels she might have a “good time” doing it.

James Franco has had quite a bit of experience with sex films of late, from his work on “Kink” and “Lovelace.” The actor was thus inevitably asked about the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie and whether he’d consider the casting role of Christian Grey. Franco didn’t just say yes, but hinted at a potential director as well.

“It sounds interesting. I heard that Gus [Van Sant] might direct it. If he directed it, I’d do it.”

Unfortunately, Franco didn’t offer any sources behind his claim, and — at this point at least, considering the talented actor currently has no known connections with the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie team yet — the director news may only be hearsay for now.

James Franco and Gus Van Sant have worked together to great success on the hit film “Milk,” however, and Van Sant’s deep experience with erotic movies as well as other box office successes like “Good Will Hunting” may make him a real contender for a director for the film. (The only real rumored director prior to this was Angelina Jolie, who still hasn’t ruled the “Fifty Shades of Movie” out.)

In other “50 Shades” news, actress Mila Kunis also recently opened up on EL James’ steamy silver screen adaptation. Although there were rumors in late 2012, Esquire's "Sexiest Woman Alive" was a frontrunner for the part, Kunis confirmed she was not, in fact, in talks for the casting role.

For the first time, however, Mila Kunis has acknowledged that she would be interested in playing the innocent Ana, saying it could be a “good time” for her on-screen. Upon recently being asked if she’d be up for the part, Kunis replied:

“There are times when you just want to do something fun and different [in acting,] because you’re going to have a good time doing it.”

Quite a few fans have acknowledged that they are simply tired of hearing rumors and want to know who is cast as Christian and Ana. While certainly understandable, major Hollywood films — as “50 Shades” is no doubt expected to be and will become in theaters — simply do take a lot of planning and time to create, willingly or not.

However, what is likely is that if actors or actresses put their names forward to EL James and the film team for a role in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, they are certain to at least get some attention from the inner goddess author. So far, several stars have been outspoken on their interest for a part in the steamy love story, some including Ian Somerhalder, Alexander Skarsgard, Stephen Amell of “Arrow,” Kim Catrall (as Elena, not Ana), and now Mila Kunis.
