Although no confirmed casting news has been given with the advent of 2013 for the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, rumors and speculation continue to abound in regards to Chris Hemsworth and Ian Somerhalder this week. According to Enstarz this Wednesday, Jan. 2, Chris Hemsworth of “The Avengers” has recently risen in popularity among fan polls for the part of Christian Grey. Similarly, recent reports that Nina Dobrev — girlfriend of Ian Somerhalder — would not want Lucy Hale for the part of Anastasia Steele due to being "jealous" of her potential onscreen time with Ian Somerhalder remain unfounded.
As casting polls continue for the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, several sites have pointed out that Chris Hemsworth has made a surprising surge in the polls, becoming a close frontrunner alongside the longtime Alexander Skarsgard, Matt Bomer, and Ian Somerhalder (Giuliana Rancic did name him as her ideal Christian Grey with Kristen Stewart as Ana). Conflicting reports from the IB Times and Enstarz allege that “The Avengers” star hasn’t yet looked at the “50 Shades” novel, while the other has “read a few parts.”
“Someone mentioned [‘Fifty Shades of Grey’] to me … I don’t know, maybe I’m interested. I’m not going to say anything. I haven’t read the book,” said Hemsworth earlier in 2012.
Now, a source from the IB Times adds:
“Chris Hemsworth has read some parts of ’50 Shades of Grey’ privately, but still hasn’t talked about the [Christian Grey] casting role.”
In other “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie news, the rumor mill began on New Year’s when Celebrity Dirty Laundry addressed a report that Nina Dobrev was “worried” about Christian Grey frontrunner Ian Somerhalder starring alongside Lucy Hale (a recurring favorite for Anastasia Steele with Alexis Bledel and recently Lauren Watson). And while “The Vampire Diaries” actor may certainly be a charmer, this only appears to be celebrity gossip for now, as no official source was given to back the statement that any tension exists between the happy vampire couple.
“These jealousy reports are not backed up at all,” added MStarz.
For fellow “50 Shades” fans, the wait for confirmed film news from EL James continues to be the most challenging of all, but with screenwriter Kelly Marcel hard at work on the screenplay for the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele casting hopefuls may not have long before a director at least is chosen.
