The “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie team is narrowing down their choices for casting Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele this week, and it seems that the actors and actresses chosen to make the steamy final list are not who fans may have expected. According to Hypable this Tuesday, Aug. 20, “The Social Network” actress Dakota Johnson is a front-runner for Ana, while Charlie Hunnam is considered a producer favorite for Christian in “50 Shades.”
What’s more, casting for “Fifty Shades of Grey” is all but confirmed to end within Sept. 2013 because the movie team has been quite clear that they want filming to begin before the end of fall. That means that while our Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele are still unconfirmed, the mystery for our film leads won’t be tantalizing us for much longer.
Dakota Johnson, who has been hinted as an actress now in the running for Ana, may be new to the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, but not to “The Social Network” producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti. The star is also known for her strong roles in “Ben & Kate” and “21 Jump Street.” OF course, playing Anastasia Steele would bring a whole new look to her résumé.
Actor Charlie Hunnam has also been hinted by another source this week as a “producers’ favorite” and possible lead in the running for Christian Grey. Hunnam hasn’t received nearly as much support or fanfare as some other contenders like Henry Cavill or Matt Bomer, but there hasn’t been much disappointment with him being considered either.
Unfortunately, the truth of the matter is that casting still eludes us “Fifty Shades of Grey” fans for another week. But the wait is almost up, and with an Aug. 1, 2014 date and casting anticipated to begin this fall, Universal will be confirming our leads before we know it.
Can you see Dakota Johnson and Charlie Hunnam in your “50 Shades” cast?
