‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ finally gets a release date

Focus Features announced on June 27 that it will release the film adaptation of the book “Fifty Shades of Grey” written by E.L. James, on August 1, 2014 in North America. The release goes up against Marvel’s superhero movie “Guardians of the Galaxy” starring Benicio del Toro and Chris Pratt. For die hard “Fifty Shades” fans, 2014 it's just too long of a wait; especially since speculation about leading roles has had gossip blogs going at it for months.

Focus Features made the announcement on their Twitter along with a helicopter photo which read “CHARLIE TANGO You are cleared for landing August 1, 2014” which is a clear reference to Christen Grey’s helicopter.

“#FiftyShadesofGrey is now a shade closer. See.

E.L. James also tweeted, “Good morning all. Hot news - we have a release date!”

The screenplay is currently being written by Kelly Marcel and the film is based on the steamy novel of the same name. Universal Pictures International will distribute the film internationally. The studio has not released the international release dates.

Sam Taylor-Johson, the director for “Fifty Shades” was just brought onto the team last week. Roles for the lead, Anastasia Steele and the controlling billionaire, Christian Grey , have yet to be announced. Plenty of names have been thrown into the hat; Alex Pettyfer, Ian Somerhalder, Ryan Gosling, Henry Cavill, Matt Bomer, and Robert Pattison head up the list for Christen Grey. Lucy Hale, Emilia Clarke, and Alexis Bledel top the list for Anastasia Steele.

We know for sure “Arrow” Stephen Amell is out after announcing he had read the book after his “Fifty Shades” meeting and decided he had no interest in playing the part of Christen Grey.

Are you excited for the movie? How do you feel about the leading roles?
