E L James has made it official! Charlie Hunnam will star as Christian Grey in the upcoming film "Fifty Shades of Grey." The much anticipated casting news came on September 2 in the form of a tweet from the author, "The gorgeous and talented Charlie Hunnam will be Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey." The news came shortly after Dakota Johnson was announced as Ana Steele via Twitter as well.
Charlie Hunnam, 33, is best known for his role as "Jax" on the FX series "Sons of Anarchy." His character on the show is ruthless and sexy, two traits that will be needed for his transition into Christian Grey. The UK born actor has been in the business since the age of 16, when he starred in the children's series "Byker Grove." Since those days he has appeared in 20 films and TV shows, his most recent success was the critically acclaimed "Pacific Rim."
"Greysessed" fans have had mixed reactions to the idea of Charlie Hunnam portraying the mercurial Christian Grey. Many of the early favorites were slowly being denied the role but the fans have yet to fully embrace the idea of a newcomer. What is for certain is that Hunnam needs to be ready to jump into character as film production is set to begin in the next few months. Luckily he already has the physique but many are expecting him to change his physical appearance to better fit the description of Christian Grey. Notably his hair will require a few copper highlights and he will simply need a more clean shaven look.
