Everyone's been talking about "Fifty Shades of Grey," but at least now they can stop talking about one thing: casting the female lead. (However, people will now talk about what they think about who has been cast in the role.) On Monday, Sept. 2, the author of the "Fifty Shades" trilogy, E L James, took to Twitter to announce who will be playing the female lead of Anastasia Steele: Dakota Johnson.
"I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey," the author tweeted. Johnson recently starred in the cancelled Fox series "Ben & Kate" and was in films such as "The Social Network," "21 Jump Street," and "The Five-Year Engagement," and is currently filming "Cymbeline."
So now we know one half of the two major characters of the book, but we do not yet know who will be playing Christian Grey, whom Anastasia falls for and who introduces her to the world of S&M. The movie will be directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti and was written by Kelly Marcel. It is slated to hit theaters Aug. 1, 2014.
UPDATE: Check out who's playing Christian Grey!
