The role of Christian Grey is about to be cast, again, for “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Who is taking over the role now that “Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam bowed out? According to Entertainment Weekly on Oct. 23, Jamie Dornan is in the final stages of negotiation for the role.
There had been a lot of “Fifth Shades of Grey” casting buzz both before and after Hunnam was announced, and Jamie Dornan had become a frontrunner over the past week or so. Now it's getting closer to being official, apparently, that Dornan will be Christian Grey in the film slated to premiere in August 2014.
If the deal falls into place, Dornan will co-star with Dakota Johnson, who will play Anastasia Steele. Jamie Dornan isn't a household name, for the most part, at least not yet. He dated Keira Knightley for a couple of years, and he did quite a bit of modeling. Some will recognize him from “Once Upon a Time” where he played Sheriff Graham, and he's played a serial killer in “The Fall” BBC miniseries.
It will be interesting to see if Jamie Dornan's “Fifty Shades of Grey” casting, if it goes that way, prompts the same kind of reactions people saw with the Hunnam announcement. It really was something of an impossible mission, casting Christian Grey, because fans of the books have been so opinionated. Will Jamie Dornan be able to convince moviegoers he was the right man for the part?
