'Fifty Shades of Grey' adaptation will be NC-17

Surprising news has come out of the UK via The Telegraph today, and it has to do with an upcoming adaptation.

Focus Features hired Kelly Marcel to write the adaptation of the very adult oriented novel “Fifty Shades of Grey,” and the writer has now revealed that she is writing it to be NC-17.

She said, “It will be NC-17. It’s going to be raunchy. We are 100 per cent going there. The fans love this book, and I want them to love the film as much. I want to make them laugh and cry, to turn them on. I want this to do everything.”

If Focus Features really backs this play to make this movie NC-17, considering its huge devoted following, this could change how people view NC-17 rated films depending on how successful it is.

For some reason sex has always been so taboo in our country when we have people being dismembered on screen for an R-rating.

Look at Ang Lee’s “Lust, Caution” or “Blue Valentine” or even “Shame” as examples of phenomenal films that didn’t get a moment to shine because we frown on sex, but we give Oscars to violent films like “Gladiator.”
