The novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" has become a phenomenon around the world and upon its widespread release and eventual pick-up by Universal Pictures, fans began casting the roles with their favorite stars. Unfortunately, the average person is not a casting director, or should it be said that, fortunately the average person is not a casting director. Although fans tend to have good intentions, their casting choices tend to be lacking. With the news from IB Times on Jan 29 that Analeigh Tipton is a new favorite and Shailene Woodley's adventures with "Divergent", there is a need to take a realistic look at who is a good fit, as well as available, to fill the coveted role of Ana Steele in the "Fifty Shades of Grey" film.
"It's a role that seems pretty brave. I'm curious, that kind of peaks my interest, see how bold I can get."
A former model and figure skater, Analeigh Tipton had a very unconventional start in Hollywood. In 2008 she was cast in the show "America's Next Top Model" and placed third, yet she says the experience opened many doors for her. Tipton, 24, found success in "Crazy, Stupid Love" alongside Christian Grey hopeful Ryan Gosling and she can be seen in the new zombie apocalypse film, "Warm Bodies." The doe eyed, brunette beauty has a great mix of innocence and sex appeal which makes her an ideal candidate for the role of Ana Steele. Interviewed by Pop Sugar recently, she admitted that the part sparked her interest. Although the actress has three movies in post-production, Tipton has not signed on to any new projects. Is she waiting for the role of Ana Steele? The relative newcomer is the best fit for the part now that Shailene Woodley is out of the running.
Sharing a homeland with E L James, the UK born Emilia Clarke has likely appeared on the authors radar. The "Game of Thrones" actress has many of the physical attributes of Ana Steele, with the resume and acting skills to back up her beauty. Although she has not spoken about the rumors, Perez Hilton chimed in saying, "we've seen a DRAMATIC increase in recent attention paid to the 'Game of Thrones' star... Fans of both series are tweeting and writing about her being the perfect ingénue for Christian Grey." Clarke, 25, has an open schedule.
The least available out of the actresses mentioned, Amber Heard has two movies currently filming and another in pre-production. Although that sounds daunting, being cast in "Fifty Shades of Grey" is still in the realm of possibility as the film will likely not begin principal photography until 2014. Most recently seen in "The Rum Diary" opposite Johnny Depp, Heard has 36 acting credits to her name and is a rising star in Hollywood. Although she is 26, the mesmerizing star looks much younger and could easily play a 22 year old college graduate. Amber Heard has not commented on the role.
Above are a few of the most realistic casting choices for the part of Ana Steele. There are many fan favorites including Emma Watson, Alexis Bledel and Kristen Stweart who were not mentioned. Their exclusion from the list was based on multiple factors, with age, look and availability being the most important.
