Fifth Thrid River Bank Run

The thirty-third annual Fifth Third River Bank Run is 17 days away. The race is the largest 25k road race in the country with more than 18,000 participants.

Following the Grand River from downtown Grand Rapids to Chicago Avenue where the course crosses the river runners continue upstream back to the city.

Those wishing to register earlier should consider having dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings on Alpine Avenue in Walker on Friday, April 23. Those who register for the race at the restaurant will receive a $3.00 discount on the early registration fees for the 25k, 10k and 5k runs as well as the 5k walk.

Late registration for the event will continue through May 7 at the Sports and Fitness Expo in DeVos Place. Also at the expo will be packet pick-up, a pasta dinner for racers and a panel discussion about the race.

Kids wishing to participate can do so at the junior events on Wednesday, May 5 at Rogers High School, 1350 Prairie Parkway, Wyoming. Kids ages 5-13 can participate in a ½-mile and 1-mile fun run at 5:30pm or the 5k run at 6:45pm.

Prize money for the races ranges from $4,000 in purse money for the 5k and 10k races to $91,500 in purse money for the 25k race.

Spectators wanting a good view of the start should go to the corner of Monroe and Lyon outside DeVos Place and Fifth Third Bank and make their way down Lyon to Ottawa where the racers will finish.
