Fifth Avenue infinity scarf pattern still a hot item (Photos)

Once again this year, cowl patterns, either knit or crocheted, are much sought after free patterns. Aptly named after New York's 5th Avenue fashion industry, this beauty is the must-have accessory for fall and winter knitting. With over 1500 projects in progress on Ravelry, and lined up in over 4000 queues, this infinity scarf pattern rates big time with knitters seeking high fashion.

The written pattern is by San Francisco resident, Margaux Hufnagel, tentenknits on the popular knitting forum. It's an easy four-row pattern, knit in the round, and requires two skeins of worsted yarn, about 450 to 500 yards.

Margaux is a talented knitting designer and you'll want to see all of her patterns. Her latest is The Gate Sweater, which appears in Knitscene Winter 12, and was inspired by a blouse Livinia was wearing in an episode of Downton Abbey. Ah, yes, yet another very loyal fan of the PBS classic.

You can bet knitnscribble's "Sunday knitting" includes this fabulous knitting design featured above. I'm using two skeins of Malabrigo worsted with a US 8 (5 mm) circular needle. You'll find the free pattern link, kindly posted at tentenknits. There's also a chunky cowl pattern version, proceeds benefiting ALS, posted on the site as well.

Happy knitting!
