Field trip profiles: Grandma Hoerner's

If you are craving all the wonderful flavors of fall, your next field trip should be just down the road to Grandma Hoerner's.  From their original Big Slice Applesauce to delicious salsas, relishes, and even pumpkin butter; you can sample everything in the store.

Yes, there was a real Grandma Hoerner. Mabel grew up on a farm in Kansas in the late 1800s. Her family’s farm included an apple orchard, and Mabel became known as a talented cook. Her apple sauce, made with thick slices of fresh apples, was a frequently requested treat from family and friends.

Located just off I-70 near Alma, KS, Grandma Hoerner's store is cozy and inviting.  Your whole family is welcome to stop in and enjoy the tasty treats.

Your whole family can glimpe into the factory through the viewing window to see all the products being prepared right on site.

Contact them ahead of time to arrange a tour of their unique, organic food production plant.  Learn all about canning, labeling, and food preservation.

Make sure to take a jar of their famous applesauce home.  They have several flavors:

  • Cinnamon
  • Raspberry
  • Apricot
  • Candy Apple (my personal favorite!)
  • Strawberry
  • Raspberry Jalepeno
  • All Natural

Serve it warm over icecream or just eat it right out of the jar!
