Field trip: Crayola Factory

Almost everyone remembers playing with crayons as a child. Being able to make shapes and images in various colors of choice is an activity that has engaged children for generations. The most popular crayon producer is Crayola, a company that is famous for making many child-friendly art supplies. Yet few people know that the Crayola Company also invites visitors to come to the factory and see where the crayons are actually made!

Located in Easton Pennsylvania, the Crayola Factory accepts reservations 7 days a week from 9am to 5pm. The going rate for a tour is generally $12 a person. During the tour, visitors will be shown how crayons are made and there are interactive areas for younger guests to enjoy—such as an area where the walls can be colored and decorated! There is also an area to “Doodle in the Dark” where everyone’s drawing can be illuminated via giant Crayola “glow boards.” In fact, there are at least 14 different interactive exhibitions for visitors to experience and enjoy. Yet the Crayola Factory offers more than merchandise and tours. There are educational programs and rentals available. Kids can even have parties at the factory as long as reservations are made in advance. There are also several programs and workshops and one is actually directed at homeschoolers. “The Crayola Experience” is a program that is open all year round and offers educational merits in the subjects of history, science, and art. February and September have been the designated the two “Homeschool Family” months due to lower school group attendance during those times.

For anyone who lives in Pennsylvania, or those who are willing to take a trip to the state, the Crayola Factory is truly a delightful and unforgettable location. For anyone who loves crayons, especially those with young children, it is a prime place to visit and make good memories. Furthermore, families who homeschool can use the opportunity as an educational field trip. By taking a tour of the factory children will learn about art and the science behind Crayola’s products.

Going places and having fun is an essential part of being truly well educated and promotes a desire to learn through exploration and experience. Guided tours and interactive activities provide kids with the benefits of fun and learning and the Crayola Factory is dedicated to these concepts. Hence, it is a go-to location for any budding artist, color-aficionado, and those with a general sense of adventure.
