Spring is quickly approaching! As the snow melts away, hopefully for good, there are many activities that are opening up again and make perfect field trips for homeschooled children and families wishing to expand their children’s learning through home. One of these great activities is the Botanical Gardens. At this time of year, the Botanical Gardens is gearing up for their “Spring Flower” show (April 9 – May 1). This is a great show to take your children to. You can cover topics such as science (ex: how flowers grow, what they need to grow, what climates different flowers grow best in) and you can cover the topic of art if you would like to attend the Botanical Garden’s “Arcangel Gallery - Watercolor Exhibit”.
While at the Botanical Gardens, don’t forget to engage your child in picture-taking! Pictures are a great way to remember what you learned when reviewing at a later date. When you get home from the Botanical Gardens, write a story about what you saw, try growing your own flowers like the ones you saw, paint your own watercolor, and even make a collage of the pictures you took along with any other projects you may think of.
