Fibershed is on a mission to change the way we clothe ourselves by supporting the creation of local textile cultures that enhance ecological balance and utilize regional agriculture while strengthening local economies and communities. They have been accomplishing this mission through various methods including public education, extensive textile research, textile producer programs and community building. Through these efforts and along with events such as the upcoming Fibershed Fashion Gala 2013 - Fibershed will continue its charge by honing in on the fashion industry and all of us who get dressed everyday. Living sustainable means knowing where your clothes come from and choosing textiles grown in close proximity to where you live when possible.
The Fibershed Fashion Gala press release reads, "In an effort to expose the abundant natural fiber resources available in the Greater Bay Area, Fibershed presents the Fibershed Fashion Gala- a “Soil-to-Skin” sustainable fashion event featuring the collaborative works of top local designers and local farmers. Re-imagining a new era of fashion, the Fibershed Fashion Gala demonstrates the potential of a regenerative fashion supply chain-- one that ensures the production of climate beneficial clothing for local human populations. This farm-to-fashion inspired event will take place Saturday, December 14th, 2013 from 3:00 pm -7:00 pm at Jacuzzi Family Winery in Sonoma, California."
The event will include a 1930's themed runway show featuring garments made of entirely California produced textiles, a live auction, a shopping marketplace, organic appetizers and live music by The Emily Anne Band. All proceeds from the event will support Fibershed’s 2014 ‘Soil to Soil’ Projects for durable farmed goods. All participating fashion designers are from the Bay Area and will offer off the rack garments for sale in the event's shopping marketplace. Go here to purchase tickets.
