Fiat's 875cc turbocharged inline-two gasoline engine has been named 2011 Engine of the Year at the Engine Expo in Stuttgart, Germany. This after winning the same award last year for the 1.4L MultiAir. It took top honors as International Engine of the Year, Green Engine of the Year and Engine of the Year under 1-Liter Displacement as well. Somewhat surprisingly, it beat out electric powertrains from Nissan and Mitsubishi for Green Engine of the Year. Producing 85 hp, the TwinAir achieves impressive fuel economy and low emissions. At 1.6 horsepower-per-cubic-inch, that's really a quite good performance level.
