Fiat's 500 1957 Edition drives back to the future as a tribute to its orginal 1950s inspiration. Fresh retro paint colors, white roofs, vintage style badges, brown leather interiors, sports suspensions, and body color disc-style wheels add flair to a city car that's seeing steady growth in popularity with urban Americans.
Fiat's highly efficient Multiair engine gives the 500 1957 Edition an EPA rating of 30 m.p.g. city and 40 m.p.g. highway.
Offered in pale blue, white (blanco) or light green (Chiaro), the 1957 Edition will be available in the Spring of 2014, fifty-seven years after the original's debut. This special edition comes fully equipped with premium audio, satellite radio, fog lamps, security system, and electronic stability control. Its sports suspension promises driving fun, while stylish throwback touches rev up retro flair.
Fiat has produced several special editions of the 500, from the seriously sporty Abarth, to the chic Gucci model. They add driving fun and/or exclusivity. The 2014 Fiat 500 1957 Edition's unique style should prove popular in the growing luxury compact hatchback niche.
It's price has not been announced, but Fiat 500s generally run thousands less than comparable MINI Coopers.
