Fiala named MAC East Pitcher of the Week

Sophomore Brooks Fiala has been named MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week by the league office. He was the man on the mound for Miami in their 1-0 victory over Akron, in the third and final game the 'Hawks played against the Zips in a six-hour marathon on Saturday. He pitched 8 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and one intentional walk while striking out eight.

Fiala's season thus far features a record of 3-4. He's made six starts for Miami, but has been called out of the bullpen six times as well, a testament to his versatility. In 48 2/3 innings of work, he has stuck out 33 while walking just 11 batters. He hasn't been too bad at the plate either, posting a .368 average (7-for-19).

The RedHawks will be in action Tuesday, facing Indiana (25-15). The 'Hawks and Hoosiers already met once this year, with Miami scoring six unanswered runs in the seventh and eighth innings to steal a 6-1 win April 5th in Oxford.
