FFXIV: A Realm Reborn beta signups have begun (Photos)

Square Enix have today begun registration for the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn beta. According to the signups page, players who have already met the requirements of the Legacy campaign, as well as those who participated in the original FFXIV beta, will not have to reapply and can play the beta from Phase 1 and onward. If you want to give the PC version a test run instead of the PS3 beta, however, you will have to sign up again.

North American players who haven't yet participated in an FFXIV beta can sign up on the beta page here, and European players can register here. Square also released an extended prologue trailer for A Realm Reborn with three additional minutes of the new and improved FF world, shown below.

After destroying the original FFXIV planet with an epic apocalyptic story event trailer, Square opted to remake the game with a 2.0 version that would fix the numerous issues with the MMO. From the job system to the UI to the graphics engine, the developer pulled out all the stops to try to improve upon what they admitted to be a failure. A new Full Active Time Event system will introduce spontaneous events for players to take part in, such as hamlet defense.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Real Reborn will be available for the PS3 and PC when it releases.
