Usually after the Christmas rush is over, many retail personnel lose their jobs. But there were fewer layoffs in the retail sector in Florida after Christmas. And in Broward County more people found work in the retail sector. In Florida, there were 812 known retail layoffs a decrease from 2,892 in January 2013, a 72 percent decrease. In Broward County, there was an increase of 6,300 retail jobs; an increase of 5.9 percent and in Palm Beach County, there was an increase of 5,300 retail jobs, an increase of 7.3 percent, according to State of Florida information, in an article by Marcia Heroux Pounds in the February 8 Sun Sentinel.
"This is good. More people are working and fewer people are losing jobs," said Terry Gold.
"I hope this trend continues. We need to have more people working," said Brianna McDowell.
