Festivals dominate this week in Orlando music

It may only be February, but festival season is kicking off in a big way this week. It is Florida after all. Festival events and news dominate this coming week, February 3-9 in Orlando local music.

In festival news this week are several items. The early submission discount for The Florida Music Festival has expired, but they are still accepting submissions. FMF is scheduled for April 24-26 in Orlando. February 3 the on-line fan voting kicks off for bands hoping to win a spot in the Hard Rock Live music festival in Rome’s Piazza del Popolo this summer. Orlando band The Cold Start announced they are playing SXSW in March.

On Friday Ralphfest 3 kicks off in Orlando. This year the festival has expanded to a three day musical celebration of Ralph Ameduri’s life and legacy. Friday night’s festivities are at Will’s Pub and Lil’ Indies. Saturday night there are events scheduled at The Beacham, The Social, Sky 60 and BBQ Bar in downtown Orlando. On Sunday there is a wrap party scheduled at The Lucky Lure Bar in downtown. More information is available in this Examiner.com article.

The Daytona Main Street Live Original Music & Art Festival is Saturday in Daytona. Yeah, it’s not Orlando, but there are a bunch of Orlando bands in the lineup of local and international artists. The festival kicks off at 2 p.m. with over 130 acts on 18 stages.

Also on Saturday is the Road to the Beast: Orlando Battle of The Bands II at The BackBooth. Orlando bands Valor, Fear the Concept, Clear Convictions, Transcendence and The Bride Wore Blood along with Central Florida band Lambs Like Lions are battling for a spot at the Southeast Beast Festival in Jacksonville, FL on April 5 and 6.

Monday, February 3

BB Kings Blues Club - 9101 International Dr. - Live music from Orlando band Blue Stone Circle from 7:30-11:30 p.m.

Downtown Credo Cafe - 706 W. Smith St. – Songwriter’s Stage Open Mic from 7-10 p.m. will be featuring Orlando singer/songwriter Derek Martin.

West End Trading Company - 202 S. Sanford Ave. (Sanford) - RPR presents open mic hosted by Central Florida singer/songwriter Brandon Parker Harris at 8 p.m. This FREE event is 18+.

Tuesday, February 4

The Red Lion Pub - 3784 Howell Branch Road - Twisted Tuesday with Orlando band The Happy Campers for this 18+ show. This FREE event includes live music and other entertainment as well as a home-cooked meal, with a $1 donation to the Red Lion Community Emergency Fund. The live music starts at 7:30 p.m.

Jazz Tastings - 164 Lake Ave. (Maitland) - Live music from Orlando’s Brad Catron Quartet and Jackie Jones at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, February 5

BB Kings Blues Club - 9101 International Dr. - Live music from Orlando’s B.B. King All Star Band from 7:30-11:30 p.m.

Jazz Tastings - 164 Lake Ave. (Maitland) - Live music from Orlando’s John Valeri Quartet at 7 p.m.

The Red Lion Pub - 3784 Howell Branch Road - The Writer’s Circle, an open circle workshop and collaboration of song, poetry and comedic writers at 9 p.m. hosted by Orlando singer/songwriter Laine Breeden.

Thursday, February 6

Firestone Live - 578 N. Orange Ave. - IGNITION Two Year Anniversary featuring live music from Orlando bands The Crazy Carls, Stockholm, Ancient Sun, The Groove Orient and Chasing Jonah on The Foundation Project Live Music Stage. Included in the celebration are DJ performances by Orlando's Alex Wood, Dvnk Sinatrv, Winston Wolfe, DJ Byno, Cruz Control, Phoenix Jagger, DJ Robb Blak, Eric K, Los Noize, Frankie Alex and Mr. Mashwell as well as national touring DJs Milo & Otis, Botnek, Mark Starr, Suzy Solar, Big Makk, Janpier Beauchamp and XAVI3R3. The doors open at 7 p.m. and FREE tickets are available from the bands or it will be $10 at the door.

BackBooth - 37 W. Pine St. - Live music from Orlando band Hungover appearing with Tiger Lily, Post Season and Stanley and the Search. Tickets are $5 in advance and the doors open at 7 p.m.

The Haven - 6700 Aloma Ave. - What’sit Records and Diatonic Productions present live music from Orlando band funkUs along with Jacksonville bands S.P.O.R.E. and Lumagrove for this 18+ show. The cover charge is $5 before 9 p.m. and $7 after.

Dandelion Communitea Cafe - 618 N. Thornton Ave. - Live music from Orlando band Wortzinol Trio from 8-10 p.m.

On line everywhere - WOGR - Join Orlando singer/songwriter Mark Dawson every Thursday for his weekly radio show, “Making Noise with Mark Dawson,” from 9-11 p.m.

On line everywhere - WPRK 91.5 - The Whitney Costner Radio Show airs from 12-2 p.m. every Thursday featuring some local music in the playlist and special in-studio appearances from Orlando bands.

Friday, February 7

Festival Park - 2911 East Robinson St. - The fifth annual Orlando Chili Cook-off benefitting the Special Olympics Florida. Enjoy live music from Orlando band the Sh-Booms along with Florida bands The Black Honkeys and Bobby Scott and kid zone DJ Renee Adams for this event. The gates open at noon and tickets are $12 for adults, $3 for children 6-12 and FREE for children five and under.
