Fall is officially here! One of the seasons’ traditions has arrived in South Charlotte, Festival in the Park. Freedom Park provides the perfect atmosphere for Charlotteans and visitors from surrounding areas to stroll the park enjoying venders while the sound of music and the smell of delicious food fill the air. Celebrating its 49th year, Festival in the park will feature acts such as Chuck Johnson & Charlyhorse, Pam Taylor Band and Carson Hill on the Main Stage. Several acts will also performing on four other stages including Fireman Jim who will be performing for the kids on the Clown Stage. Aside from bringing a delightful vibe to the city, the festival’s main purpose is to promote and bring interest of the arts in the Carolinas. The festival encouragingly showcases local talent from organizations such as; Children’s Theater of Charlotte, Charlotte Folk Society, Actors Crib and Jazz Arts Initiative.
It is imperative for festival-goers to get there early or have a strategic plan for parking. Unfortunately Freedom Park has limited parking. However, the hosting committee is really great about providing extra parking and police to escort you to that parking. A Word of Caution: It would be wise to carry a few dollars for parking, not all parking is free. If you do not mind the walk, some restaurants located on East blvd will let you park in their parking lot with the small purchase of an item off their menu.
If you aren’t able to make it out to enjoy the festivities on a certain day don’t worry, there will be plenty of opportunity to come out and enjoy the excitement. The Festival in the Park schedule is as followed:
Saturday: 10:00 am- 9:30 pm
Sunday: 11:00 am – 6:00 pm
