Jeffrey Jones: not too good at keeping up with that whole sex offender thing
If you've seen any of Tim Burton's films, there's a chance that you know who Jeffrey Jones is. Of course, you'd probably recognize him more for his work as Principal Rooney in the immortal comedy classic Ferris Beuller's Day Off. What you might not know is that Jones was arrested back in 2003 for taking sexually explicit photos of a 14 year old boy, and that since that time he's had some issues updating his sex offender status. Now, it appears that the actor's looking at some possible consequences for failing to update his status back around his birthday in September. Will Jones head to jail after his July courtdate? Keep on reading for the details, my gentle Examiner readers...
Jeffrey Jones is best known as the principal hunting down Ferris Bueller in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, but after an arrest back in 2003, he's been known for something else: taking sexually explicit photos of a 14 year-old boy. After that arrest, Jones was required to re-register as a sex offender-- wherever he might be living-- each year, but now it appears that Jones failed to do so after his birthday in September:
Ferris Bueller actor Jeffrey Jones was charged Wednesday with failing to update his sex offender registration status after taking nude pictures of a Fontana boy, authorities said. Jones, 63, failed to update his information with California officials after his birthday in September...Jail records show he was arrested by Los Angeles police on June 23 and released after posting $20,000 bail.
Jones is due to appear in court in mid-July for an arraignment, but the article doesn't specify whether or not Jones is looking at serious time for failing to re-register. Jones has had it rough over the past decade or so, mainly because of this arrest, and it's likely that this new interest in the case from the L.A. DA's office isn't going to do him any favors towards finding new gigs. It should also be said that Jones starred in Howard The Duck, so do with that what you will.
