Fernando and Greg are back on the air!

Fernando and Greg’s morning show on Energy 92.7 was a favorite wakeup call for Bay Area listeners for more than four years. The hosts’ fan base extends well outside of California with numerous recognitions including: the first commercially broadcast gay morning US radio show and inclusion in Out magazine’s Top 100 most influential people in gay culture. The Fernando and Greg show was suddenly taken off the air on September 10th when Ed Stolz (former owner of KWOD in Sacramento) purchased the station and flipped the format. The majority of employees at Energy 92.7 were handed pink slips and the legions of fans were confused when they woke up to find odd music playing on heir favorite radio station.

Thousands of fans rebelled and even created a group on facebook to bring Energy back on the air.  After a month of being off the air, the Fernando and Greg Show now has a new home on Stitcher, a FREE mobile application and website! The 30 minute shows will have Fernando and Greg putting their signature spin on sports and entertainment, as well as sharing hilarious stories from their personal lives; however the discussions can get even juicier with the additional flexibility that Stitcher can offer. The show can be listened to on an iPhone, Blackberry, or on Stitcher’s website.

Users listening on an iPhone can 'favorite/star' the show. They can also opt to receive text updates when there is a new show. Users will receive a red "new" bezel on the Favorites button indicating an updated show. The update function is not currently available for the blackberry or website; however on all devices, if you have already listened to the show, it will be 'greyed' out. Shows that have not been heard yet will be listed in bold, black print.

“Fernando and I are very excited about having a new outlet for our voices,” said Co-Host Greg the Gay Sports Caster.  “We've missed being on the air and interacting with listeners. Stitcher provides a new and exciting venue for our voices!”

Stitcher’s CEO, Noah Shanok agrees: “The way people listen to radio is evolving.  Stitcher’s aim is to provide listeners their favorite programming wherever they are and whenever they want it. Delivering ‘The Fernando and Greg Show’ is definitely giving people what they want and what they have been missing.  We are so excited to present this iconic show.”

You can listen to the first show by visiting Stitcher’s website. Fernando and Greg have not set their final schedule yet, but they will be doing three shows a week, and they will be back on Wednesday to record their second show. Also, be on the lookout for Fernandoandgreg.com, a new website that will be launching soon.
