There is nothing better than going 'antiquing' and walking into a shop where the shop itself is as special as the antiques on display. Such is the case at the Ferguson House Antique Shop located at 509 Carthage Street in Cameron, North Carolina. The original home was built in 1887 by Doctor Kenneth Ferguson. He served as the mayor of both Cameron and Southern Pines. It is part of the National Register Historic District in Cameron.
The house is a one story home that has a vaulted ceiling in the main living room when you enter through the front door. There is a room immediately off to your right which serves as a formal dining room. As you continue through the living room, you enter the family room area which has an open space that leads into the kitchen. The family room has a lovely fireplace, which heats the home quite nicely on cold winter days. The kitchen has a mud room off to the left which would make a wonderful tea room.Off of the kitchen are two rooms which serves as bedrooms, one of which is decorated with vintage and antique children's furniture.
It is such a cozy and warm home that is filled to the brim with fabulous antiques and nick nacks. They are all on display as if you have entered someone's home. The owners of the house have put it up for sale. It would make a wonderful investment for someone that is looking to start an antique business. The location is fantastic, and has a built in reputation for being an antique lovers destination. The downtown association hosts two antique fairs each year on the first Saturday in May and October, where the streets come alive with vendors selling all kinds of lovely antiques and vintage pieces. People come to these events from all over the country.
