Fergie defends Christina Aguilera, while Joan Rivers calls her fat

On Monday, fellow Super Bowl performer Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas came to Christina Aguilera's defense. On Sunday, Aguilera infamously botched the Star Spangled Banner in what many fans are describing as the most embarrassing moment of Aguilera's career. Hours after her controversial performance, Aguilera apologized to the world saying “I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”

* CHRISTINA AGUILERA BRUTALLY RIDICULED OVER WEIGHT GAIN

Among the few actually expressing sympathy for Christina Aguilera is Fergie, who publicly commented Monday about Aguilera's flub.

"You know what? It's such a huge venue, your nerves take a hold of you," Fergie said during an interview on Dan Patrick's radio show. "I completely understand. She's one of the best singers of our time. Nobody can take that away from you. ... But you get nervous at these things. We're human."

* CHRISTINA AGUILERA GETS FUNKY WITH CONAN O'BRIEN

Fergie's comments differ dramatically from those of comedian Joan Rivers. “How stupid can you get?” Rivers told PopEater on Monday. “Christina must have been thinking about food, that’s why she forgot the words.”

Will Christina Aguilera ever live down the embarrassment of mangling the national anthem on Super Bowl Sunday?

Joan should pay attention to her own diet and wash her foul mouth out with soap.

"Wash your mouth out with soap" what you like 90? My great grandmother used to say stuff like that

fergie sucked even worse than aguilera. That attempt at guns n roses sounded like bar karaoke at last call. not much of a defense...

She made a boo-boo. Some people can't wait to be critical of someone when he/she makes a mistake. Holy shit.

America, you really have collectively lost your minds. This "news" is being followed elsewhere in the world on the basis that this reaction is just so beyond belief. What a nasty, screwed up place your country has become. And yet, you think the rest of the world should aspire to it's Divine Greatness or whatever. Word up. We don't.

Joan Rivers needs to die already. I don't find her funny at all. No wonder her husband committed suicide.

    that was uncalled for dude

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

It's still worrying me that nobody is noticing that she said "plane" instead of "flag," also! She made more than one mistake!

Anonymous - why are you following the story then? Because you can't believe it? Oh the horrors!
Look, just because you and your little country are nowadays able to follow our news and events via the digital age doesn't mean we care or should be beholden to you or your self righteous hypocrite countrymen.

Joan Rivers - What has all that surgery done? It turned Don Rickles' mug into a Joy Behar lookalike. Please retire to your condo somewhere and spare the rest of us your Balsamic vinegar spit.

Yes well because she does really look morbidly obese doesn't she?
What the hell is the world coming to? There are people who look thin in countries that are starving and we think it looks good? a slight bit of flesh on anyone and it's wrong!
You do know having fat on your body is healthy right Joan?
We need to go back a few 100 years when being over weight meant you were affluent!!!!!

Who the heck is JOAN RIVERS?

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

I think they should have picked a singer who has proven themselves over time as being reliable to sing the correct lyrics. Does she even know the correct lyrics?

  • You'reAnIdiot 1 year ago

Umm, she's been singing the National Anthem live since she was like 7yrs old. I guess we all can't be perfect like you.... I wonder if you even know the words, without googling.... Good Luck!

  • Cee 1 year ago

She sucked! Maybe she was sucking on too many twinkies at the time. It was pure torture listening to her. Forgetting the words is no big deal but the performance and the riffs and vocals were horrible.

Everyone makes mistakes. I would have probably shhhh myself had I been up there in front of 100,000 plus people and on national TV. Professional singer or not. Nobody's perfect. Christina has an amazing voice. Joan likes the attention, but in reality she just looks like a surgeons' dummy doll... Christina didn't stop singing. I didn't even notice the mistake. Lay off her already. I still love u XTINA!! :)

Lets see Joan get her fat ass up there and try to sing it with out messing up!

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Joan Rivers can talk this is coming from possibly one of the top 10 most ugly women of all time she should not judge people. I'm sure if someone smacked her in that monstrous face it might help her and shes surely does deserve it.

however christina did put on an amazing rehearsal performance if it was the actual one it would have come close to whitney houston

Standing in front of 100,000 plus people and a viewing audience of another 100 million would make anyone go weak at the knees. She did fine. It is a tough song to sing and I have heard more than one person screw it up at my son's high school football games. Also, that little girl did not look fat or chubby to me and I do not even listen to her music. More of a 70's hard rock kind of guy. My son likes her though. As for Joan Rivers, who cares?

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

She's a great singer and very talented. No one can take that away from her even this embarrasement anthem thing.

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

    Joan Rivers, please!!!!!

These celebrities make millions of dollars to not make mistakes, so failure for them is not an option. I expect perfection from these mega stars...that's the price they pay for fame and fortune. They don't get to be "human" like the rest of us.

  • Snazzzy 1 year ago

Wow. Messing up a line of the national anthem, humiliating yourself iin front of the country, and that's not enough, she gets called FAT by everyone?? This is SICK. She is an AMAZING singer and not fat by ANY means. Besides, you know how much a comment like, "she's so fat" or "she must have been thinking about food and forgot the words" could mess up a person? We WONDER why people are so messed up. It's our fault! People need to lay off every once in a while, especially when it comes to people who have been proving themselves over and over by singing flawless National Anthems since they werre, what, eight? Nine?
