Feral cat colony disappears in Fort Worth…foul play suspected

Rescuers and animal lovers are distressed at the disappearance of an entire feral cat colony located in Fort Worth, Texas’ Trinity Park.

Due to the city’s estimated 5,000 feral cats ending up each year at the municipal animal shelter, Fort Worth has been involved in Trap, Neuter, Return program. For years, the Trinity Park colony  has been lovingly  cared for by a group of dedicated volunteers.

The TNR group made sure the cats were spayed, neutered and vaccinated then released back into their habitat where the caretakers continue to feed and care for them. TNR has been proved to be the most efficient and humane way to deal with feral cats as numbers diminish naturally.

This colony was featured in an NBC video in December NBC5 video in December.

According to DFW Animal Rescue, 18 of the cats have disappeared. “A jogger reported to volunteers that he saw a black cat in the park – dead and decapitated – around the time the colonies began to disappear, leading them to suspect foul play.”

Furthermore, the “custom-made, coyote-proof shelters that had protected the cats from the elements are missing.”

Volunteers are offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who knows what has happened to these cats. The volunteers are raising funds to hire a private detective to investigate the disappearance of the cats.

Please contact ro@cattailz.org with any information regarding the missing cats.
