The Fenimore Art Museum, located at 5798 State Hwy. 80 in Cooperstown, New York, recently announced a number of exhibits that will be featured at the museum during the 2011 season. The museum reopens on Tuesday, April 1st.
Among the exhibits being featured:
- Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens by Nickolas Muray - running April 1st through September 5th, this photographic exhibit looks at the famed Mexican artist through the lens of lover, Muray. It features 46 photographs taken between 1938 and 1948.
- Shadow Catcher: Edward Curtis Among the Kwakiuti - focusing on the Kwakiuti Indians, this photographic exhibit runs April 1st through December 31st. It will also feature artworks from the Eugend and Clare Thaw Collection of American indian Art.
- A Window into Edward Hopper - this collection, running May 28th through September 11th, is in collaboration with the Glimmerglass Festival, where an opera based on Hopper's paintings, Later the Same Evening, will be presented this year.
- Prendergast to Pollock: American Moderism from the Munson-Williams Proctor Arts Institute - showcases works from every major artist from the first half of the 20th century; runs May 28th through September 15th.
- Unfolding Stories: Culture and Tradition in American Quilts - the first display in more than 10 years of the museum's quilt collection; runs September 24th thorugh December 31st.
- Inspired Traditions: The Jane Katcher Collection of American Folk Art - running October 1st through December 31st, it's the first major showcasing of this private folk art collection.
