Fendu Boulangerie which literally translates to “cracked” or “split bakery” has sparked interest in the Honolulu community. With Safeway and Whole Foods dishing out artisan breads there was still a void to fill in the bread world. And then, voilà, Fendu Boulangerie opened its doors last year boasting that they make authentic, makes you feel like your walking on the streets of Paris, French bread. And what better to do with bread than to make sandwiches with them.
Fendu Boulangerie features five sandwiches, four of which are only $6.50 and the fifth being $8.50. Sandwiches range from a sterling sliver strip loin steak sandwich, which is served on a rustic bread bun with a four pepper butter, farm fresh greens, tomato, onions, aged balsamic vinegar, and pecorino reggiano cheese, to an oven roasted smoked turkey or a black forest ham sandwich, both served on a rustic bread bun with bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and provolone cheese. If you’re a vegetarian their vegetarian sandwich is served on a wheat germ bun and includes Japanese eggplant, bell peppers, onions, tomato, zucchini, farm fresh greens, and their house vinaigrette dressing. But, the sandwich that their known for and is their most popular is their curried chicken salad sandwich, served on their sweet onion naan bread with tomatoes and farm fresh greens.
