On Monday night, July 28, 2014, Dujour Magazine threw a celebration for its July cover girl, Chrissy Teigen. The party was at NYY Steak, where guests enjoyed delicious hor d'oeuvres like amazing burgers, and a live DJ spinning hit tracks. The famed champagne brand, Moet & Chandon, also sponsored the party and gave the guests glasses of their newest flavor, Moët Ice. The bash was also presented by Fendi Timepieces. John Legend made a surprise visit to support his wife on the red carpet. Below, we have an exclusive interview with Chrissy where we talk about her new hair, diet tips, and her love of "Real Housewives"!
What inspired this new blonde hairstyle for you?
Chrissy Teigen: I think every once in a while I just get really bored ... and I have had my dark hair for long enough but I never felt like anybody could do it correctly other than Tracey Cunningham. She's known for being an amazing colorist, but I was always scared. I was like, "listen, I'm Asian, I don't want to look crazy. I don't want to look porny and weird." I want to look like myself, but that I just wanted a change. So yeah, she came to my house, I had my head in my own sink and was lying on the counter. She colored it, and then my mom, after she colored it, actually showed her a baby photo of me which was me with really really blonde hair. So the next morning, she texts me and goes: I want to come over again, we gotta go lighter. So I was like "Oh my god!" Because I thought that was [already] super blonde! But yeah, we went lighter and it was awesome.
What other styles are you excited to try?
CT: Listen, I'm always a nerd with hair stuff. I'm very late on the trends, like I'm just now into braids and I love that stuff. So, I love a good updo, I love boho stuff, I think now, more than ever, I'm trying to go more sleeker than usual.
If there were a reality show of you and John, what would a typical day be like in shooting?
CT: Oh my god, there would never be ... it would be me, in bed, watching "Real Housewives." That's what I always say to people that present that idea to us, they're like "We want your reality show!" I'm like okay, how much time do you want to spend, in my bed, watching Housewives?
What's the typical diet for you when you're getting ready for a shoot?
CT: I actually really love to go actually semi-raw. I do a lot of salads, tuna sashimi. For me, when I'm not dieting I go so hard on eating what I love that anything's a diet afterwards. Literally just eating a Cobb salad with cheese and ranch, and everything is a diet. So, I know what to do, but it's usually sushi and sashimi and I cut out carbs completely and cut out sugar. And then I cry and write down everything I want to eat for the rest of the time after.
If you could have a power lunch with any woman, who would it be and where would you go?
CT: Oh my god, a power lunch. The thing is, anyone I would have a power lunch with I would be too scared to ask for and actually commit to doing a power lunch with. I mean, Hillary Clinton would be amazing, Amy Poehler, I would just die. There's too many, honestly. Mindy, there's a lot. I feel like Mindy would be one of those people I'd actually be able to sit down with and have this power lunch with, where I wouldn't get up and just leave.
What's your favorite snack food?
CT: I really love Hot Pockets. Like, I love a ham and cheese hot pocket. Is that a snack food or is that a meal? Anyway, ham and cheese hot pocket. Not whole wheat though.
So you went to Kim Kardashian's wedding! Have you seen Kim and Kanye since?
CT: We have not seen them since! We had such an amazing time being there with them, but no we have not been to see them since.
When you're doing a photo shoot, what are 5 tips to slim down before?
CT: Low carb. No rice, nothing white. No juice! Juices are the killers. Even if it's fresh, this is like the worst part, saying like fresh orange juice, fresh anything, it's all sugar. It's all about greens, drink a ton of water obviously, never go to bed too full. You're not supposed to be full when you go to bed.
Out of your celebrity peers and friends, who do you most look to for hair inspiration?
CT: Every time I go to my salon, I'm like, give me the Jessica Alba or give me the Jennifer Lopez. There is no other, there is nothing else.
And why do you like those so much?
CT: Because they're just so effortless with their color and their styles. And they look so sexy all the time. I just copy them, for everything.
