A limited edition Fender Telecaster® guitar adorned with the artwork from the Rolling Stones classic “Beggars Banquet” album is being offered exclusively through Amazon.com, the guitar company announced Oct. 16 in a press release.
Only 300 of the guitar packages will be produced. The instrument features artwork from the Rolling Stones "Beggars Banquet" album cover on the front and the gatefold feast on the back of the guitar’s body, as well as a numbered neck plate. Also included in the package will be a Beggars Banquet clear vinyl LP and a Fender-branded guitar wall hanger.
The company says that because of a new state-of-the-art printing process, this is the first time the artwork will be printed directly onto the guitar’s body and pick guard. The box the guitar package is shipped in is also adorned with Rolling Stones LP cover art.
The Beggars Banquet Telecaster guitar incorporates the controversial original UK album art from 1968. When the Stones’ album was first released in the UK, a picture of a graffiti-defaced public toilet was used for the cover. That picture was deemed too controversial for the U.S., so London Records, the Stones' American record company, issued the album in America with an all-white alternate cover. ABKCO has since restored the cover art to the original in successive re-issues of the title.
