Femi Kuti and the Positive Force

Femi Kuti, Fela Kuti's son, will be at the 9:30 Club on January 25, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. with his aptly-named band, The Positive Force.

Femi Kuti takes normal Afrobeat to new levels with a wonderful mix of drums, keys, guitars, and horns that draw one into a pulsating, vibrant mix of music. Femi began his career in his father's band and later created his own band, Positive Force, in the late 1980s with Dele Sosimi (Gbedu Resurrection), his father's former key-board player.

A three-time Grammy nominated singer, he still carries his father's penchant for speaking out against social ills. His son, displaying an obvious penchant for music, plays the alto saxophone in his act.

Femi Kuti's voice is featured in the videogame Grand Theft Auto IV, where he is the host of radio station IF 99. He has worked on several collaborations including a collaboration on his album Fight to Win with a number of U.S. musicians, including Common, Mos Def, and Jaguar Wright.
