Femented fun, new beer fest kicks off season

It’s that time of year again, when brew businesses throw down the gauntlet and hope to be the best at beer fests around the city.

This year, two downtown hotels are throwing their joint hat into the brew fest ring.

The D and Golden Gate will host their inaugural Beerfest today starting at 5 p.m. Featuring more than 60 craft beers, including lagers, malts, ciders and crisp ales from 50 breweries around the world, the festival takes place in front of the historic Golden Gate, which opened in 1906. The weather is just starting to dip below 100 degrees for good so it’s a perfect time for a cold one under the canopy of the Fremont Street Experience.

Aficionados can choose to sample five beers for $20, not a bad deal for the caliber of companies who are jumping in to be part of the first fest from The D and GG, or do a pint better for twice the price and enjoy “bottomless brews” for $40. Single drafts will also be available for purchase. And to help festival-goers soak up the booze during all the drinking and dancing, legendary Coney Dogs from Detroit’s iconic American Coney Island will be available.

A DJ will spin upbeat jams from the Main Street Stage for guests to groove to while Golden Gate’s signature dancing dealers will show off their best moves from OneBar.

Downtown is a lively place on a September Saturday night, so get there early for best parking and brew selection!
