Early box office numbers have conceded the weekend win to YA novel adaptation "Divergent," further driving the point home that female-led action movies do indeed draw an audience.

According to The Mary Sue's early numbers, box office reports put "Divergent" on track for a $60 million weekend debut, with its other opening weekend competition "Muppets Most Wanted" coming in at second place with only $18 million.

Is it a trend? Or a sign of the changing times? At this point, it's still hard to say, but Summit Entertainment (the company behind "Divergent's" production) has already given the greenlight for "Insurgent," the second in Veronica Roth's dystopian trilogy, to be adapted to film.

"Insurgent" is currently slated for a March 2015 release.
