This year marks the 3rd annual Women in Horror Recognition Month. Every February, horror fans around the world celebrate the feminine side of fear. All month long I will be highlighting various actresses, writers, icons, films, etc. that owe a debt to a woman in horror.

I’ve written about my love for this movie many times, but I’ll try and say something new. How can a film about a cheerleader-turned-vampire-hunter, who is trained by Donald Sutherland to kill Rutger Hauer and his sidekick, played by Paul Reubens, be bad? It can’t.
Like Freddy’s Dead and Jennifer’s Body, if you accept the cheese factor of this film you won’t be disappointed. This is most certainly a B-film on an A-film scale. Fran Rubel Kuzui’s brilliance is shown by the fact that this is the last movie she ever directed. She knew she couldn’t get any better. (No, in truth she became an amazing producer.)
Her brilliance is also evidenced by the fact that there is no mistaking Buffy came out of 1992. The film trumpets its trends, fashion, and vernacular while retaining the conventions of vampire lore/media and the comedic slant of many horror films.
