Female bicyclist killed in Daytona accident Saturday

Update: Daytona Beach Police have identified the bicycle rider as 19-year old Haley C. Jacobson.

Original story: Daytona Beach Police say a young woman was killed in a bicycle traffic accident Saturday afternoon. A report on the Police Department’s website says the accident happened around 5:30 Saturday afternoon at Ridgewood Avenue and Madison Avenue. Police say witnesses told them that a vehicle northbound on Ridgewood Avenue had the green light as it approached Madison Avenue. The young woman on the bike, according to police, “…was westbound attempting to go eastbound across Ridgewood Avenue.” The vehicle and bike ran into each other and the bicyclist was thrown from the bike onto the road. The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and police say she was probably in her late teens or early twenties. Relatives have not yet been notified of the accident.

Daytona Beach Police say the driver of the vehicle, belonging to the City of Daytona Beach Leisure Services Department, was a 47-year old man. Daytona Beach Police Traffic Homicide Investigators say the investigation into the crash is continuing.
