The English Football Association will be investigating into a claim that Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini spat at Manchester City full back Pablo Zabaleta on Tuesday during the Manchester Derby.
According to video, it appears that Zabaleta might have a case.
Referee Michael Oliver did not report the incident in is post-match report, but the FA has the ability to administer punishment retroactively, if necessary.
The FA has requested clearer footage from the broadcast, SkySports specifically, before they make a ruling either way.
Manchester City was involved in a similar incident earlier this month. Hull City’s George Boyd spat at goalkeeper Joe Hart and was suspended for three matches.
Fellaini was booked on the sequence of play for an elbow to Zabaleta’s head. And truthfully, it quite easily could have been worse and seen Fellaini heading for an early shower.
“I was elbowed by Fellaini,” Zabaleta said. “It was a red card.”
