When cats enter your life, you are never the same again. Felines are furry, cute and intelligent. When they are happy, they purr and a meow is their own way of communicating. Cats are nocturnal animals whose eyes shine brightly like the moonlight. They are good hunters who keep the home free from rodents. They are affectionate, playful and independent. In ancient Egypt, cats were sacred.
T.S. Eliot, who was a gifted poet and writer, wrote Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, and he never thought that his book of children’s verses would ever be turned into a Broadway musical. In 1984, the musical Cats made its debut on Broadway based on T.S. Eliot’s, Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. Andrew Lloyd Webber, a brilliant composer, transformed the poetic verses into songs. At the Winter Garden Theater, the stage was turned into an environment for cats. The art of personification was used in the performances to show the Broadway aficionado, through dance and song, the stages of life.
Cats, the musical, had the magic touch, for it became the longest running musical on Broadway. Some good things in life eventually come to an end. On September 10, 2000, the musical, Cats, closed on Broadway. Now the show is currently playing in London. Throughout the ages, cats have inspired mankind.
Mysterious in nature, cats are loyal companions. They take life one day at a time. In a fast paced world, they show us how to live.
