Who do you follow on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube? The Shorty Awards recognize social media stars who shine on computers and mobile devices in America and around the world. Today, The Shorty Awards announced the host for their fifth annual event, coming up April 8, and it is none other than Twitter enthusiast Felicia Day.
Day made her own hosting announcement to over 2 million followers on Twitter, using its new Vine app. It isn't surprising that one of the pioneers of web entertainment has been quick to adopt the app that, in the spirit of Twitter, keeps it short by only allowing users to upload six seconds of video.
It has already been a busy year for Day, who was on the set of “Supernatural” last week for yet another episode. She has been tirelessly promoting International TableTop Day (March 30), part of a big first birthday celebration, not only for Wil Wheaton's show “TableTop,” but for the whole YouTube channel, Geek and Sundry. The channel is, at this time, just under 8,000 subscribers away from the half-million mark, a goal they hope to reach by April 1, a week before the Shorties.
Shorty finalists were announced in five special categories on March 19. This is in addition to the finalists in 63 “For Everyone” categories that were announced on Feb. 27, including recognition for the “Vox Populi” in each category, the nominee who received the most nominations.
